Preview: Rochdale Hornets v York Acorn
Match Preview for this Sunday's Challenge Cup tie.
Rochdale Hornets will be looking to make it through to the next round of the Coral Challenge Cup when they take on York Acorn at the Crown Oil Arena on Sunday.
Matt Calland’s side have undergone a tough pre-season, which has included games against Championship outfits Widnes Vikings and Oldham, and a weekend away at Woodland Experiences in cold conditions to galvanise the team.
The League One season for Hornets gets underway against the Coventry Bears at the Butts Park Arena next weekend, whilst Sunday’s visitors get their season underway on March 7 against Underbank Rangers.
York ended last season in second behind Pilkington Recs in the NCL division 1, they lost just five games scoring a total of 706 points the most in their division.
Head coach Josh Mortimer will use Sunday’s game against the Hornets to see what position the club is in ahead of their respective season as well.
Acorn are unbeaten in their last four league fixtures against Dewsbury Moor Maroons, Wigan St Patricks, Skirlaugh and Stanningley.
Hornets CEO Steve Kerr is looking forward to welcoming York Acorn to the Crown Oil Arena. He said: “I am pleased to welcome York Acorn to the Crown Oil Arena on Sunday, the club have a strong following in the amateur game and we hope that all supporters enjoy what should be a great Challenge Cup game.”
