Matty Unsworth becomes latest signing for 2026

Second-rower Matty Unsworth has completed a move to Rochdale Hornets ahead of the 2026 season.

The talented forward joins the Hornets having spent the last two years at North Wales Crusaders.

He made 17 appearances in all competitions for his former club and previously impressed in Salford Red Devils' reserve side during the 2023 season, earning his move to North Wales.

Unsworth has spent much of his time in the game playing open age rugby league for local amateur side Shevington Sharks and remained with the club until the age of 25 before joining Salford.

A hungry back-rower determined to make his mark next season, we are confident that Unsworth has all the ingredients needed to be a valuable addition to our forward pack.

The club have already confirmed two new arrivals ahead of the 2026 season, with half-backs Jamie Dallimore and Jordan Paga agreeing moves to the Crown Oil Arena.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to have signed with Rochdale for this season,” Unsworth said.

“I can’t wait to meet the lads in pre-season, get to work and hopefully play my part in a successful year for the club.”

Rochdale Hornets chairman Andy Mazey said: "Matty is a player who fits the profile of what we are looking for perfectly, and someone I know Gary Thornton is looking forward to working with.

"He’s gained valuable experience at North Wales over the past couple of seasons, having originally come through at Salford, and he's another player whose best years, we believe, are still to come.

"He’s a real quality second-row forward and has been on our radar for a while.

"Therefore, we are delighted to get it over the line and bring Matty to Rochdale. I’m looking forward to seeing him in a Hornets shirt, as I’m sure our supporters will be."
