Joe Lowe joins Rochdale Hornets until end of season

Rochdale Hornets have signed versatile half-back Joe Lowe on a short-term deal, running until the end of the 2025 season.

Wigan-born Lowe spent much of his early life in Australia, enjoying three years playing for Sunshine Coast Falcons in the Queensland Cup.

He returned to the UK at the start of 2023, initially on trial with Swinton Lions. He went on to feature eight times for the club in all competitions after impressing during their pre-season fixtures.

From there, he completed a move to France's Elite 2 competition. He has been there ever since, representing Tonneins who are based in the Lot-et-Garonne region.

Having contacted the club seeking a return to the UK following the conclusion of the French domestic campaign, Lowe will link up with Hornets on a deal running until the end of the 2025 season.

The 24-year-old operates primarily in the halves but is also capable of operating at full-back.

He was presented to supporters during half-time of Saturday's game against Midlands Hurricanes at the Crown Oil Arena.

Rochdale Hornets head coach Gary Thornton said: "He has previously played in the Betfred Championship for Swinton, so brings valuable experience to our group.

"He will also provide real strength in depth. He’s a skilful pivot and can run a game plan, so we are looking forward to welcoming him into our group."
