Max Flanagan agrees new one-year deal for 2025

Promising Rochdale Hornets utility back Max Flanagan has signed a new 12-month deal, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2025 season.

Flanagan arrived at the Hornets prior to the 2024 campaign, after spending his first senior season in professional rugby league at Newcastle Thunder the year prior.

He went on to make eight appearances for Gary Thornton’s side, scoring his only competitive try to date against Hunslet back in March.

On his new deal, the 23-year-old said: “I am delighted to be staying for another year with Rochdale. The support from the fans, the staff and my team-mates has been incredible.

“It was an easy decision to make because I believe in the vision and direction we’re heading.

“I’m excited for what the future holds, and to keep giving my all for this fantastic club.”

Rochdale Hornets head coach Gary Thornton said: “I’m really pleased that Max is returning for 2025. Although he had limited opportunities last season, we all saw the potential and the talent he has at either full-back or pivot.

“He has pace to burn and an eye for a gap so is a threat in attack. He also returns the ball really well out of back-field.

“I’m expecting Max to have a big impact next season, and I'm delighted he’s staying with us.”
