Half-back Lewis Hollidge joins Hornets
Rochdale Hornets have bolstered their ranks with the signing of half-back Lewis Hollidge.
Hollidge joins the Hornets after impressing as a trialist in Gregg McNally’s testimonial match against Leigh Leopards earlier this month.
Originally from Gillingham, he came through the ranks at the Kent-based Medway Dragons and has recently spent time with Halifax Panthers and Leeds Rhinos.
He goes straight into contention to face Oldham this weekend, with the Hornets’ 21-man squad set to be announced tomorrow.
“I’m really excited and grateful for the opportunity to sign and play for Rochdale,” Hollidge said.
“I am looking forward to stepping up to this level, testing myself and seeing how far I can go. Coming from my childhood club Medway Dragons that were only formed 15 years ago, it’s an honour to be playing for a team like Rochdale with 153 years of history.
“In the short time I have been involved with the Hornets, I have been made to feel very welcome by Gary Thornton, the coaching staff, the medical staff and all the players.
“I’m really looking forward to this season and what we can achieve.”
Rochdale Hornets head coach Gary Thornton said: “Lewis has been trialling with us through pre-season, having spent time at Leeds Rhinos and Halifax.
“We have been impressed with his progress, and he’s now available to us for this season. He’s a talented young half-back and will provide extra cover for us in that position.
“As everyone knows, we have injuries to some key players in those positions, and Lewis provides increased competition for places.
“He’s a very enthusiastic and dedicated young man who is desperate to establish himself as a regular League 1 player.”
