Hornets confirm Luke Forber signing on permanent deal

Rochdale Hornets are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Luke Forber following a successful trial period.

Forber, who has featured in both the club’s pre-season fixtures so far against both Widnes and Oldham, has impressed following his trial period with the Hornets.

The 24-year-old, who formally of the NCL’s Clock Face Miners, has already hit the ground running after scoring a try and being named man of the match in our defeat at Oldham.

Forber, who is 'delighted' to have signed his first contract, has said: “I already can’t wait for the season to start and to get playing with all the lads. 

"It’s always been a dream of mine to play rugby at a competitive level and I'm grateful to Rochdale giving me this opportunity.

“I am excited to challenge myself and showcase my talent at this level, and get as much game time as possible in 2023."

Forber has impressed throughout his time playing for amateur side Clock Face Miners, which is something head coach Gary Thornton has praised. 

He said: “It’s a great story where a lad has spent most of his playing career in the community game and can step up to League 1 level now.

“Luke has come into our pre-season camp from the amateur game and impressed us all with his attitude and determination to make it at the next level. 

"His enthusiasm is infectious and he is a tough defender who runs good lines in attack.”

Hornets chairman Andy Mazey has echoed the positivity on the signing of Forber, he added: “It’s really pleasing to see a young player come in from the community game on trial and grab the opportunity with both hands. 

"Not only has he impressed Gary and the staff throughout pre season with his attitude and effort but his two performances against Widnes and Oldham in the warm up games have been very promising.

"Well done Luke and welcome to Rochdale Hornets.”
