Dan Nixon re-signs for 2023
Rochdale Hornets is delighted to announce the re-signing of talented young winger Dan Nixon, for the 2023 season.
Having made his debut for the club in 2021, Nixon has become a regular in the starting line-up thanks to his ten tries in this year’s Betfred League 1 campaign and is now extremely keen to keep on developing.
The 20-year-old said: “I’m proud to sign for 2023 and eager to see what the new year will hold.
“I’ve enjoyed every game and taken something away each time, whether it be from a win or a loss.
“The fans have been amazing as well, creating a first-class atmosphere, and I know we can keep building on it!”
His brace, against North Wales Crusaders, in the Elimination Semi Final last time out saw him pick up the Man of the Match award in a continuation of the fine form he’s shown - under new Head Coach Gary Thornton.
Thornton has nothing but praise for the former Oldham St Annes man.
He said: “Dan is one of the bravest young players I’ve seen for some time. He always puts his body on the line whether carrying out of the backfield, going for the corner or competing for the high ball.
“His enthusiasm is infectious and he always has a smile on his face. Also, his attitude and approach to training and playing is exemplary for a young man, and I’m sure if he continues with those values he will go far in the game.
“He’s a local lad too and clearly enjoys representing Rochdale. And, as such a popular member of the group, he’s a really key individual to have re-signed.”
Andy Mazey, Chairman of Hornets, is also a big admirer.
He said: ““Dan has become a Rochdale Hornets fans’ favourite, so I know our supporters will be delighted with this news.
“Appointing Gary before the current season is over has given us valuable time to work on a retention and recruitment strategy which is vital especially considering we operate a much tighter playing budget than we have over the past couple of years.
“Securing the club’s brightest young talent has been a top priority and Dan is a great example of this.
“He is a talented young man but more importantly he has a fantastic work ethic and attitude, as well as being a credit to his family. He is someone who shows pride and passion every time he pulls on our shirt and he’s getting better year-on-year.
“I’m excited to see his progress continue in 2023.”
