Rochdale Hornets to begin its Betfred Championship North campaign
Rochdale Hornets Wheelchair Rugby League team, operated by the Hornets Sporting Foundation, will begin its 2022 campaign this weekend with a trip to Sheffield Eagles - the same club that Hornets faced in its last game of 2021.
The game will take place on Sunday March 27, 2:00pm kick-off at: Sheffield College, Hillsborough Campus, Livesey Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S6 2ET.
Wheelchair Rugby League (WRL) was relaunched in the town in February this year, with training taking place every Tuesday night between 7 and 8:00pm - at the Rochdale Leisure Centre.
This first fixture gives the club an opportunity to measure itself against a team at a similar stage of development, and support the clubs’ ambitions of growing the game within the borough.
‘’It has been a challenging period since the relaunch, with a limited squad but I’m proud that we are able to take the next step and begin our 2022 campaign with an exciting fixture against a team in Sheffield’’ said Carl Abraham, Hornets' new WRL Head Coach.
Wheelchair Rugby League is a fully inclusive sport, with disabled and non-disabled players playing alongside one another, and the club are working closely alongside various disability & inclusion groups in the hope of attracting more players into the club.
Team to take on Sheffield Eagles: Sophie Bamford, Gavin Dobson, Joshua Hart, Michael Hart, Kyran Holt, Bradley Johnson Brown, Debbie Johnson Brown.
