Hornets Women Grab First Win
Hornets 28 - 26 Whitley Bay Barbarians!
Rochdale Hornets Women picked up their first win of the season this Sunday with a hard fought 28-26 victory over Whitley Bay Barbarians at Rochdale Mayfield ARLFC.
Hornets Women had lost their first three games against more experienced opposition, but managed to overcome Whitley Bay in a clash that went right down to the wire. Tries from Amber Nicole, Anna Simpson, Harriet Victoria, Armani Khaliq, Jade Crosby and Katie Stephens were enough to get them off and running for 2019, as well as two vital goals from Harriet Victoria.
Even in defeat in recent weeks to Hull KR, Barrow and Halifax, the Hornets girls have improved dramatically in the second half of games, and their finishing ability would deliver them the result this time around. Whitley Bay raced into a 16-10 lead at the break, but Hornets maintained their cool and utilised their bench to keep themselves in the game before grabbing the win late on.
The girls will now have the chance to rest up and train for a week weeks between games. Anyone interested in joining the team can come down to training at Rochdale Mayfield ARLFC on Monday and Thursday nights from 7pm - no previous experience is required.
