Pre-season fixture against Swinton called off
This Sunday's pre-season fixture against Swinton Lions has been called off.
Rochdale Hornets can confirm that this Sunday’s pre-season fixture against Swinton Lions at the Crown Oil Arena has been called off.
Following Sunday’s Law Cup game with Oldham, there are some noticeable areas of concern on and around the pitch.
Having held lengthy discussions with Rochdale AFC and assessed all our options, we have agreed that preserving the pitch through the testing winter months is in everyone’s best interest. With more bad weather expected, we have taken the difficult but necessary step to ensure the pitch is protected.
Whilst we understand that our fans will be disappointed, this early decision has been made so not to inconvenience anyone. The decision was also made with the blessing of the coaching staff, who are happy with team preparations as we build towards the opening of the 2020 League 1 campaign.
Steve Kerr CEO said: "We are disappointed and would like to apologies to fans for calling off our third pre-season game. However, protecting the pitch will serve us well come the start of the season and Matt can now focus on our first competitive game.”
Hornets will next feature in the third round of the Challenge Cup on February 9th, before traveling to Coventry Bears on February 16th to kick-start the 2020 League 1 campaign.
