International round-up: Six Hornets in weekend action

It was a busy weekend of international action for Rochdale Hornets, as six representatives from our men's and women's sides took to the field.

At Hawick RFC, Ross Whitmore's Scotland came up against an Ireland side which included new Hornets recruit Oli Whitford as this autumn's Celtic Cup got underway.

Whitford, playing at full-back, scored the opening try of a game which finished 44-12 in Ireland's favour.

Hornets captain Whitmore did go over for Scotland's only second-half try, battling past three defenders to touch down.

Valued members of our backroom team, Lyndsey Watkins and Curtis Exley, were also involved with the Ireland national team for their Celtic Cup opener, and will continue to do so for the remainder of the tournament.

Elsewhere, four members of our women's squad represented the Netherlands as they were beaten 54-0 by Scotland.

Lisa Berding, Fiona Kalf and Eva Peroti all featured for a Dutch Lionesses side that was captained for the first time by Hiske Blom.

The involvement of our players and staff is a testament to the talent, dedication and commitment across our men’s, women’s and wheelchair programmes, and everyone at the club is incredibly proud of their achievements.
