Emily Howarth signs for Hornets Women for 2026

Rochdale Hornets Women have announced the signing of back Emily Howarth for the 2026 season.
The 25-year-old signs for the club after a successful pre-season.
“I’ve spent the last 18 years playing football, but last year I decided to take the leap and give rugby union a go, and I’ve been loving it so far," she said.
"The girls I met earlier in the season at union were incredible. Their support and encouragement really boosted my confidence and pushed me to try rugby league too.
"Starting a completely new sport can feel a bit daunting, but the coaching so far has been brilliant. Everything’s been explained so clearly, and both the coaches and the team have been so patient while I figure things out.
"Being part of a club that celebrates its women’s team is really special. Being a part of this team, I feel inspired by the amazing, strong, supportive women around me.
"I’m excited to keep learning, improving, and getting stuck in with everyone this season."
Women's head coach Ben Bird said: “Emily is a bolt out of the blue, coming to us having never played rugby league. A footballer turned union player, and another joining through our Rochdale RU relationship.
"Meeting her during our gym sessions, she fits in to the group dynamic perfectly. But it was during field sessions we saw what she was about, she's lightning fast! She's also 100% in contact - not a bad combination.
"I really can't wait to see Emily in a competitive environment, supported by this group of women. I think she could add an awful lot to an already strong backline.”
