Exciting prop forward joins Rochdale Hornets

Rochdale Hornets have further reinforced their forward pack with the signing of front-rower Danny Lynch.

The prop forward, who was named in Ireland's extended training squad to face Scotland in an international test last year and previously featured for Ireland’s 'A' team against the England Community Lions, joined Swinton Lions ahead of the 2025 season.

He made two appearances for the club, both off the bench, and was also named as 18th man on two further occasions.

Lynch arrives at the Crown Oil Arena hungry for further opportunities in 2026, and we are confident that he can be a valuable addition to our squad.

He becomes the club’s third new signing of the week, with second-rower Ethan Wood and ex-New Zealand and Samoa international Junior Sa’u also committing to the Hornets for the upcoming campaign.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to have signed with Rochdale for the 2026 season,” he said.

“After talking with Gary Thornton about the club’s ambitions for this season, it was a no-brainer to jump on board.

“I'm looking forward to pre-season, meeting the lads and getting stuck into it.

“Hopefully I can have a positive impact on and off the field and play my part in taking the club as high as we can possibly go. I’d like to thank Gary and the board for giving me this opportunity.”

Rochdale Hornets chairman Andy Mazey said: "We are delighted to bring Danny Lynch to Rochdale Hornets.

"Danny is a middle forward who thrives on the tough stuff in the core and is hungry for game time in 2026.

"He comes highly recommended by people whose opinions we trust in the game, and is another player with his best years still ahead of him and with a point to prove."
