Castleford Tigers front-rower joins on loan

Young Castleford Tigers prop forward Akim Matvejev has joined Rochdale Hornets on loan for the remainder of the season.
The Estonia-born forward linked up with the Tigers first team on a two-year deal back in April 2024, having impressed in their academy setup.
He made his Betfred Super League debut from the bench against St Helens last September before making his first league start the following week against Huddersfield Giants.
Earlier this year, Matvejev enjoyed a short stint on loan at fellow Betfred League 1 side Workington Town, making a solitary appearance against league leaders North Wales Crusaders back in Round 14.
Standing at 6'3, Matvejev will add a new dimension to the Hornets forward pack, and we look forward to seeing what he can produce in our remaining fixtures.
"I'm really excited to learn from a new set of players and coaches, and help where I can on the field,” he said.
"I'm ready to gain some valuable experience at the club and finish off the season strongly to hopefully break into the top four."
Rochdale Hornets head coach Gary Thornton said: “We have secured Akim on loan before the deadline to bolster the squad going into the final phase of the season.
“He’s a very promising young front-rower in a full-time environment with Castleford, and has already played League One football this season.
“He’s a big aggressive forward who will add enthusiasm and quality to our options in the pack.”
