Dan Nixon signs new deal for 2026 season

Rochdale Hornets winger Dan Nixon has agreed a new one-year deal, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2026 season.

Nixon made his Hornets debut in 2021, having been promoted to the first team squad from academy partners Hopwood Hall College.

He has gone on to feature 70 times for the club in all competitions, scoring an impressive 49 tries.

Known affectionately by supporters as 'Flying Dan', Nixon has established himself as a real fan favourite at the Crown Oil Arena and we are delighted to retain his services heading into next season and beyond.

The 23-year-old is in line to feature later today as the Hornets take on Whitehaven in the annual Superhero Day fixture, in front of an expected four-figure crowd.

"I’m absolutely delighted to be signing on for next season," he said.

"As soon as I heard Gary wanted to re-sign me, it was an easy decision. I’m loving my rugby right now, and I’m hungry to keep developing and pushing my career forward.

"Honestly, one of the biggest reasons I’m staying is the fans. From day one, they’ve shown nothing but love and support - through the highs and lows, they’ve always had my back.

"Playing in front of them week in, week out means a lot to me. Their passion and belief drive me to give everything I’ve got every time I step onto the pitch.

"Now it’s all about finishing this season strongly, pushing for that top-four spot and building something special for next year.”

Rochdale Hornets head coach Gary Thornton said: “Dan has progressed and improved with every season he’s been here, and has now established himself as a regular first team player.

“His bravery and determination have seen him score some outstanding tries, but he has also shown good defensive attributes, making him a quality League One winger.

“I’m delighted he’s staying for another season and really looking forward to seeing him progress further. He’s worked hard at his game and his fitness, and deserves the reward of a new contract for 2026.”

Chairman Andy Mazey said: “I was very pleased to get a new deal over the line with Dan's agent, and it's a great way to begin our retention and recruitment for 2026.

“Dan is a player that represents everything we want this club to be about - loyalty, dedication, 100% effort and a desire to learn, improve and progress.

“He will only keep getting better under Gary and the staff, and I know our supporters will be pleased by this news as he's a real fan favourite.

“Viva Dan Nixon in 2026!”
