Exciting winger Ben Will joins on one-year deal

Young St Helens winger Ben Will has been confirmed as Rochdale Hornets’ fourth new signing ahead of the 2025 season.

The promising outside back enjoyed success during his time as part of St Helens’ youth setup, featuring for their U18s, U19s and reserves team. 

Last season, while playing for the Saints reserves, he averaged nearly a try per game.

Will also scored in last month’s Reserves Grand Final as St Helens denied Wigan Warriors a third straight triumph since the reserves competition resumed after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Centre Tom Ashton, former Betfred Super League front-rower Josh Johnson and hooker Oli Burton have already penned terms with Gary Thornton’s side ahead of the new campaign.

Discussing his move to the Crown Oil Arena, Will said: “I’m really excited to be joining the Hornets.

“The club is building towards a big year next season, and hopefully I can add something to the team.”

Rochdale Hornets head coach Gary Thornton said: “Ben is joining us from Super League club St Helens, where he has had a successful academy career.

“He is an exciting winger with pace and great finishing ability, with a proven try-scoring record.

“He’s looking to establish himself in League 1 and further his career. He’ll be a great addition to our backline, and I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing his progress within our environment.”

Chairman Andy Mazey said: “We are pleased to welcome Ben to the Hornets. He’s a talented young winger who has been featuring and scoring tries regularly for St Helens’ reserve team over the past couple of seasons.
