Hornets Wheelchair team recruiting players

Rochdale Hornets is proud to be able to announce the relaunch of its wheelchair team.

The club is currently on a recruiting surge to attract players of all abilities, aged 16 and above, to get involved and represent their side in 2022.

Wheelchair Rugby League is a fast-growing sport played over 80 minutes which is designed to replicate the running game of rugby league, with various modifications to ensure the game is inclusive for all those playing.

The team is looking to build on last season’s efforts when they begin their Betfred Championship North campaign, with a trip to Sheffield Eagles on Sunday 27th March.

The programme is led by Carl Abraham, from the Rochdale Hornets Sporting Foundation.

He believes that it's a really exciting time to be part of the Hornets brand, and feels this can be another crucial step in growing the game within the borough.

He said: “The club are working closely alongside various disability & inclusion groups within the town and are planning on conducting taster sessions that will provide an opportunity for us to have a wider reach in the hope of attracting more players into the club.”

Join the team at their weekly get together with sessions currently being delivered every Tuesday at the Rochdale Leisure Centre from 7-8pm.
