- A Wigan St Judes amateur, Ainscough gained a scholarship to join the academy of his hometown club in Wigan
- He made his club debut for the Warriors in a friendly fixture against Bradford in January 2008
- His first Super League appearance game in was in a 22-28 home defeat to Castleford in 2009, where he scored his first try and went on to make 13 appearances, scoring 17 tries
- Featuring for Widnes and Castleford on loan, he joined Bradford for the 2011 campaign and featured across two seasons at Odsal Stadium
- He also featured Down Under to play for the South City Bulls
- Ainscough joined Hornets for the 2019 season from Batley Bulldogs
