Gallant Hornets toppled by Crusaders

Rochdale Hornets Wheelchair Rugby League team, operated by the Hornets Sporting Foundation, continued its 2022 campaign with the first of three home fixtures - against North Wales Crusaders 'A'.

With both clubs at opposite ends of development, Hornets put up a valiant performance against one of the league's more established clubs - in a 12-62 defeat.

Hornets matched their opponents for large periods of the clash, with individuals winning personal battles, and gaining much needed confidence from the experience of competing against a talented Welsh outfit.

Carl Abraham, Head Coach, praised his players after the game: “We competed for large parts of the game and every player that represented the club should be proud of their efforts.

"We’re at the start of our journey, competing against teams who’ve been playing together for a number of years.

"I’m seeing huge improvement week-on-week and believe, with a couple of experienced additions, we could become a team to be recognised in this league.”

The Hornets Wheelchair team train every Tuesday night from 7-8pm at Rochdale Leisure Centre.

They'll be looking to get back to winning ways when they play host to Dundee Dragons on Sunday April 24 at Rochdale Leisure Centre (1:40pm KO).

Hornets: Debbie Johnson-Brown, Gavin Dobson, Joshua Hart, Kyran Holt, Sophie Bamford.

Interchanges: Catherine Bamford, Michael Hart, Conrad Glowacki.

Tries: Gavin Dobson (24, 56), Kyran Holt (48).
