Rochdale Hornets head to the coast as they take on the Swinton Lions at the Summer Bash in Blackpool as they look to gain revenge for their previous defeat to the Lions on Good Friday.
Story So Far
Waves of Championship fans travel to Bloomfield Road as a extravaganza of rugby league begins with seven games taking place over two days. The Hornets take on their nearest and dearest rivals on Day One of the event after Toronto and Toulouse Olympique open proceedings.
Matt Calland’s Rochdale fell to the hands of play off contenders York City Knights 24-18 at the weekend in a thrilling Championship tie which saw the Hornets coming close to pulling off a second half comeback.
The Lions meanwhile have had a two week break losing to the Widnes Vikings 32-10 on the 5th of May.
The two sides last met on Good Friday at Heywood Road with Swinton winger Mike Butt running in three tries as the Lions ran out 36-22 winners despite a second half comeback from the Hornets with Declan Kay scoring a brace along with tries from Carl Forster and halfback Dan Aram.
Bloomfield Road will host the second of three meetings between the two sides in 2019 with the final match of the series taking place on the 30th of June at the end of three away trips to Dewsbury, York and Sheffield for the Hornets.
Players to Watch
Mike Butt – The Winger grabbed four tries last time out when the two sides last met and has been a massive part of their attack this season.
Oscar Thomas – Thomas joined the Lions at the beginning of the 2019 season having had stints at Bradford Bulls and Sheffield Eagles and can play at halfback or fullback. He has also represented Scotland at international level
Gavin Bennion – He is a former Hornet having played for the club in 2017 and on loan in 2018. He has impressed at Swinton this year and has developed into a good second rower.
