OLD ROCHDALIANS SPONSOR MATCH FOR 15th CONSECUTIVE YEAR
ROCHDALE Hornets is delighted to welcome long serving match sponsors, the Old Rochdalians, to the Crown Oil Arena for todays Betfred Championship fixture.
The Old Rochdalians are in their 15th consecutive season supporting a Hornets fixture.
Main organisers Alan Tyson and Stephen Holt have renamed their group from Rochdale Grammar 1966 to the Old Rochdalians. The original group which included Tyson and Holt plus former Hornets player Colin Simkins, Brian Cutler, Rodger Brierley and Mike Beattie all played for the school first team on Saturday mornings. They then started their association with the Old Rochdalians by playing, in the same afternoon, for one of the club’s teams.
That association has lasted many years and on the more recent sponsorship occasions many former Old Rochdalian players have been invited to join the original group. This has helped to swell the numbers attending the matches and hence instigating the change to the new sponsorship name.
In the early 1970s the club removed Old from their club name and became Rochdalians, however shortly after completing their fifty year jubilee celebrations, and as the club had moved to its Rakewood ground, the club renamed again to their current title Littleborough RUFC.
The Rochdalians group consisting of over 30 people are looking forward to today's game against York and hoping for another vital win.
