Head coach position in hot demand

ROCHDALE Hornets CEO say’s the club has been overwhelmed with the amount of enquiries for the head coach position that will become vacant at the end of the current 2018 season, with expressions of interest currently being sought.

Steve Kerr said: “This is an exciting time for Rochdale Hornets with a chance to rebuild this historic club. The next appointment is perhaps the most important one for the club in the modern era.

“Whoever comes in will have big shoes to fill. Alan Kilshaw leaves behind a legacy having delivered success in his first two years in charge, winning League One and retaining Championship status against the odds in 2017.”

Despite Kerr putting emphasis on the importance of selecting the right individual, he says the club certainly won’t rush to a decision.

“It would be very easy to get carried away with the expressions of interest we have had – both the quality and the quantity.

“What’s important is that we make another good appointment that can help achieve our long term ambitions. The recruitment process we will go through will enable candidates to speak with me before applying. An appointment will only be made by the interview panel after each shortlisted coach has had their chance to impress.”

At such a pivotal time for the club and the sport, Kerr knows the next appointment will need to be a good fit for both the club, and the town.

“I’m well aware of the responsibility to recruit the right coach, but supporters should be reassured that the interview panel will also consist of knowledgeable, impartial and external interviewers.”

Kerr finished by saying: “We’re not just looking for a name, we’re looking for someone who can develop younger players and help reconnect this club to the Rochdale community.”
